Established in 1992, Image was set up by seven prominent comic book artists- Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Erik Larsen, Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri, Whilce Portacio, and Jim Valentino- left Marvel Comics in an artist-rights dispute. Thereafter known as an artist's publisher, Image is renown for publishing and promoting creators and artists, and publishing creator-owned properties. They are also known for higher-quality product than any other publisher. Unfortunately, the idealism did not work too well in the real world, and Image has been fraught with delivery and other business problems for years, as well as a falling out of the original partners.
