The first appearance of Kang. The second appearance of Nathaniel Richards II. The notorious "Master Of Time" first appeared in Fantastic Four #19, as Pharaoh Rama-Tut. Another of Nathaniel Richards II's most famous divergents is the Lord Of Limbo, Immortus. Lesser known divergents include The Scarlet Centurion and Mayor Victor Timely. Likely, there are more Nathaniels, than even Uatu The Watcher can keep track of.

On the letters page of this historic issue, a reader poses the question: “Why don’t any of your villains ever die?” The writer responds that they’ve killed plenty of villains. “Anyway, we love our villains! If you don’t watch out, we’ll kill a hero or two, just to get even!” Well, they did kill a hero, right in the very next issue. Did the reader give them the idea, or was the writer giving a subtle clue to something he already knew? Likely, the latter, since these comics are usually formatted in advance. On the other hand, they’re sometimes still working on them up to the last minute. Still… with consideration to time constraints, deadlines, and timely submission to the printers, it’s most likely that this Marvel-related, not Avenger-related, query was strategically selected, because of its allusion to a topic the writer wanted to address.
